Laying a new lawn on the Gold Coast

A fresh lawn transforms a yard, but it lives or dies on the prep. Good soil preparation, the right turf variety for your conditions, and proper watering in the first few weeks make the difference between a lawn that knits in and one that struggles.

For our subtropical climate, buffalo varieties like Sir Walter are a popular all-rounder that cope with heat and part shade, while couch suits full-sun lawns that get a lot of use. Order a little extra so you are not caught short partway through.

If you would rather have it measured, prepped, and laid properly the first time, that is what we do. See our lawn care service or get a free quote.

Turf questions

How much turf do I need?

Measure the length and width of the area in metres and multiply them for the square metres. Add about 5% for cuts and shaping around beds and paths. A 8m by 5m lawn is 40 m², so you would order around 42 m². The calculator above does this for you.

How much turf is on a pallet?

It varies by supplier, but a standard turf pallet covers roughly 50 square metres. The calculator gives you an approximate pallet count so you know roughly what to order.

Which turf is best for the Gold Coast?

Buffalo varieties like Sir Walter handle our heat and shade well and are popular for family lawns, while couch gives a fine, hard-wearing finish in full sun. The right choice depends on your sun, soil, and how much wear the lawn gets.
